The “Le Cortine” plant in Asciano, in the Province of Siena, owned by Sienambiente S.p.A., is a key waste management hub in southern Tuscany converting food waste into Bio-methane, food grade CO2 and high quality compost. Its revamping project, worth about 40 million euros, was contracted in 2022 to the association of companies composed of Entsorga Spa, Secit Impianti Srl and Tecnostrade Srl. Entsorga contributed thanks to the addition of the anaerobic digestion section. The entire revamping has made the system among the most advanced nationwide, increasing recycling by 15 percent, further reducing waste and thus the use of landfills, as well as saving the environment more than 100,000 tons of Co2eq per year, equal to the absorption of a 40-hectare forest.
