The MBIP is Australia’s first biomethane plant to produce and inject biomethane into the New South Wales gas distribution network. Currently, MBIP is producing 95 terajoules per annum, enough biomethane to meet the annual consumption of 6,300 households, with the ability to scale up to 200 terajoules or the equivalent annual usage of 13,600 homes. MBIP is also Australia’s first biomethane production facility to be registered under GreenPower – Australia’s inaugural government accredited renewable gas certification scheme. GreenPower certification validates the low emission credentials of the renewable gas. Each certificate represents accredited renewable gas that displaces natural gas in the network.
