Mantopi Martina de Porres Lebofa, co-founder of Technologies for Economic Development (TED) promotes demand oriented Biogas technology for Ecological Sanitation for closing the loop, treating wastewater onsite, and producing biogas for cooking while using the effluent as soil conditioner for improved crop production since 2003. Mantopi has been instrumental in promoting the Fixed Dome Digester adapted to Lesotho conditions as the TED Biogas Digester Model. During at least 20 years, she has trained and encouraged many biogas technicians and supported transfer of the TED Biogas Digester Model through cooperation with the Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA) to countries like Zambia, Tanzania, South Africa and Nepal. Since 2004 when TED was registered, Mantopi has led the construction of up to 230 Biogas Digesters. Through her advocacy and promotion for Biogas, the Lesotho Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the National Climate Change Policy encourage Biogas Technology for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change.
