After expressing a clear need to scale-up biomethane by 2030 in the REPowerEU Plan of May 2022, the European Commission has been promoting biomethane, either as biogas or its upgraded form, across the EU. The Biomethane action plan (BAP) targets biomass owners, market stakeholders and research community to accelerate its production and use while familiarizing the EU services and Member states on biomethane’s role in addressing the climate and energy crisis.
