Benly Liliana RAMIREZ HIGAREDA is a Biochemical Engineer from Mexico, with a Master of Science in Sanitary Engineering from the UNESCO-IHE in The Netherlands. Her commitment, initiative, and technical proficiency along with 17 years of professional experience have been beneficial in building partnerships to strengthen the water, wastewater, and biogas sectors. She is co-founder and, nowadays, the first female President of the National Council of Biogas (CNBiogas), in Mexico. CNBiogas is a non-profit association founded in 2018 that promotes resource-oriented sanitation of wastewater and solid waste through collaboration, capacity building, as well as political and regulatory impact. Currently, CNBiogas has 78 active members from seven different countries in Latin America and Europe. Benly, on behalf of CNBiogas, collaborated on a mathematical modeling project for the production of biogas in the Atotonilco WWTP (the largest WWTP in Latin America and the third largest in the world). In 2024, CNBiogas discussed, compiled, and published proposals to promote the biogas sector. These proposals were recently presented to the National Government administration in Mexico. Benly is the co-author of seven technical publications directly related to the biogas sector and has also coordinated various Diploma courses in conjunction with Universities in Mexico. With her two little daughters in mind, she recently launched her own YouTube channel to sensitize non-specialized public regarding environmental and social issues.
