The AD and Biogas Industry Awards is an annual initiative to recognise excellence. Each year, pioneers from around the world submit their entries into the Awards per specific categories. A committee of judges reviews the entries, selects shortlists and eventually decides the overall winners for each category. The industry gathers at an Awards Ceremony to announce and celebrate the winners. The Awards Ceremony is co-located with the annual World Biogas Expo and and World Biogas Summit.

The World Biogas Expo is co-organised annually by the industry associations ADBA and WBA (see below), and its origins date back to 2010. Today, it is the leading global biogas trade show of its kind. It features over a hundred exhibition stands, dozens of guest speakers and thousands of delegates — all representing over 100 countries at the cutting-edge of biogas. 97% of visitors recommend attending.

In addition to the three ‘main events’ of Expo, Summit and Awards Ceremony, the week includes side-events and activities in and nearby the venue. All these make up ‘the biogas trade show,’ and here is a timeline of how it evolved…

  • 2009 – ADBA is founded
  • 2010 – ADBA hosts its first anaerobic digestion trade show – the ADBA Trade Show
  • 2012 – ADBA publishes the first edition Practical Guide to AD  and ADBA launches the AD and Biogas Industry Awards
  • 2014 – the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association changes its name to the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association
  • 2016 – ADBA becomes a founding member of the World Biogas Association. The two join forces on co-organising the World Biogas Expo and the AD and Biogas Industry Awards
  • 2017 – ADBA introduces the AD Certification Scheme (ADCS)
  • 2019 – the World Biogas Summit (hosted by WBA) is launched alongside the annual World Biogas Expo

The Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) was established in September 2009 to represent the UK anaerobic digestion (AD) and bioresources industry and to support the development of a safe, high-performing industry. Today we represent over 300 organisations, spanning AD operators, equipment suppliers, finance specialists, farmers, academics, waste management companies, gas distribution networks and more specialisms. Through lobbying activities, meetings with government officials, working groups, high profile industry events, educational material and more, ADBA aims to facilitate the AD industry’s growth.

The World Biogas Association (WBA) was founded in 2016 as the global trade association for the biogas, landfill gas and anaerobic digestion (AD) sectors, dedicated to facilitating the adoption of biogas globally. We believe that the global adoption of biogas technologies is a multi-faceted opportunity to produce clean, renewable energy while resolving global issues related to development, public health and economic growth. We seek to represent all organisations working in the biogas industry at the international level across the world, including; national associations, biogas operators and developers, equipment providers, water companies, the agricultural sector, waste companies, and academic & research institutions.
