Words from the finalist…

The Bio Collectors AD plant converts food waste into biogas using anaerobic digestion technology. The plant is located in Mitcham, London, and processes up to 100,000 tonnes of food waste annually. The biogas is upgraded to biomethane and injected into the national gas grid, providing a renewable energy source. The plant also has two CHP engines with a capacity of 1.7MWe, producing electricity and heat, which are sold under the RHI and FiT schemes. The energy generated is enough to power the entire plant’s operations, a fleet of collection vehicles, and up to 11,000 homes. This fully circular energy model not only reduces methane emissions from landfills but also provides low-carbon energy to the local community.
